Snowmobiling - During the winter months many of the backcountry gravel roads in the Whistler, Squamish and Pemberton, BC, Canada regions become snowmobile routes. The high mountain elevation of the communities puts many villages above the snow line for the winter and early spring months.
When snowmobiling in the Whistler region some of the popular snow routes that explore the valleys, forests and peaks of the surrounding mountains include the Ancient Cedars Forest Loop, Cougar Lake, Alta Lake, Cougar Mountain, Brandywine Mountain and the Soo Valley.
While exploring the Squamish, BC area by snowmobile some of the more well known routes include the Brohm Ridge and the Chance Creek FSR snowmobile areas. When in Pemberton, BC the snowmobile routes most recognized are the Pemberton Icefield, Goat Meadow, Upper Lillooet and Anderson Lake areas.
Some arrive in the area with snowmobiles in tow. Others arrive ready to rent some snowmobiles. Some experienced riders prefer to head out on there own while many prefer riding the backcountry with a knowledgeable guide so they book ahead with snowmobile company or resort.
Whether you are a single rider or would like to double up on a snowmobile there are many tour operators available to guide you around the extensive trail system covering hundreds of hectares of snow when exploring the Sea to Sky area.
Some tours offered are day tours while others are multi day tours with cottage accommodations and meals. Some tours pass over frozen lakes and through the forested trails. Other trails cover large distances that take you to elevations reaching over 5000 vertical feet crossing over glacier fields that span out over 100 miles. Depending on the tour you decide to sign on for will dictate the trails and areas you explore.
Each tour is led by a professional knowledgeable back country snowmobile guide. The tour companies provide 700cc long-track and 550cc snowmobiles and all the necessary back country equipment and expertise.
It is always best to book ahead prior to your arrival to ensure availability of your chosen snowmobile adventure and guaranteeing accommodation.
